Natural gas detectors · private label
Natural gas detectors methane alarms for homes with piped gas — mounted high
Natural gas is mostly methane, which is lighter than air: when it leaks from a stove, furnace, water heater or dryer connection it rises and collects near the ceiling. A natural gas detector is therefore designed and installed high — and that single fact shapes the product. SirenForge supplies plug-in and wall-mount methane alarms for homes and apartments on piped gas, sold by hardware and security brands, retailers and property managers under their own label. For tank-fed propane in RVs, boats and cabins, see propane gas detectors; for the full range, including handheld leak finders, see gas leak detectors.
- Methane (natural gas) sensing, calibrated per SKU
- Plug-in with extension cord, wall-mount and hardwired formats
- Ceiling-height mounting guidance in your manual
- Optional CO sensor, digital display, voice alarm and valve relay
Why natural gas detectors mount high
Methane has a density of roughly half that of air, so a leak rises. Product design follows: wall-mount and hardwired natural gas alarms are made for high on the wall or near the ceiling, close to gas appliances but outside the immediate area where normal cooking fumes or steam would cause nuisance alarms. Standard US outlets sit low, so plug-in natural gas models are often supplied with a cord and wall bracket that lets the detector hang near the ceiling while plugged into an outlet below. Exact mounting distances depend on each model and the standard of your market; they are written into the manual you approve.
Formats: plug-in, wall-mount and hardwired
- Plug-in methane alarm — direct-plug or with cord and bracket for high mounting; battery backup optional. The main retail SKU.
- Wall-mount 120 V / adapter-powered alarm — screws to the wall near the ceiling; tidy for rentals and apartments.
- Hardwired alarm with relay — for installers and projects; the relay can drive a gas shutoff solenoid valve or an exhaust fan.
- Natural gas + CO combination — one unit for kitchens and utility rooms with gas appliances; see the CO section on the gas leak detector hub.
Sensor and alarm
Household natural gas alarms normally use a semiconductor (metal-oxide) sensor calibrated for methane, with the alarm set point expressed as a percentage of the lower explosive limit (%LEL). The set point, warm-up time, sound level and sensor life are specified per SKU for your market and confirmed with documentation per order. Options include a digital %LEL readout, a voice message, a test / hush button and an end-of-life indicator. The specs guide explains the sensor choices.
Typical buyers
Hardware and home-improvement brands selling into homes on utility gas; security and smart-home brands adding a methane SKU (Wi-Fi versions on selected platforms); retailers and e-commerce sellers; and property managers or project buyers equipping apartments with gas cooking or heating. Bulk-packed project SKUs and branded retail boxes are both available via wholesale and OEM.

No certifications, ratings or life-safety claims. We describe what each product is made of, how it works and how it can be customized. We do not display certification marks or listings, publish fire ratings, test data or customer cases on this site. Test reports and certification documentation can be provided or arranged per order for the buyer’s market, as the brand owner requires; detection and fire-resistance performance is specified per SKU and confirmed with documentation per order. Detectors complement — they do not replace — professionally installed and code-required alarms. Labelling and claims are the brand owner’s responsibility.
Frequently asked questions
Where should a natural gas detector be installed?
Because methane rises, natural gas detectors are typically mounted high on the wall or near the ceiling, in the room with the gas appliance, following the instructions supplied with the model. Your approved manual carries the exact guidance for each SKU.
Can a plug-in natural gas detector work in a low outlet?
Outlets are usually low, which is the wrong height for methane. That is why many plug-in natural gas models include a cord and bracket so the detector sits high while plugged in below.
Will a natural gas detector also detect propane?
Semiconductor sensors respond to several combustible gases, but each SKU is calibrated and specified for its target gas and mounting height. For propane, use a dedicated propane gas detector mounted low.
Can the detector shut off the gas?
Hardwired models can include a relay output to drive a shutoff solenoid valve or fan; valve selection and installation are handled by the installer.
Can these detectors replace code-required alarms?
No. Detectors supplied through this program complement — they do not replace — professionally installed and code-required smoke, carbon monoxide or gas alarm systems. Which alarms a building needs, and where they go, is set by local codes and the installer. We make no life-safety guarantees; the user manual, labelling and any claim on your packaging are the brand owner’s responsibility.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
Both are quoted per SKU. MOQ depends mainly on the platform (an existing detector, safe or bag design vs. a new one), housing or fabric color, logo method, packaging and the documentation your market needs; lead time depends on customization, documentation and season. Send your quantities and we confirm both on the quotation — see also the packaging & MOQ section of our specs guide.
Are your products certified or tested?
We do not display certification marks, listings, fire ratings or test data on this site. Test reports and certification documentation can be provided or arranged per order for your market, as your brand requires: tell us the destination market, sales channel and the standard or listing your retailer asks for, and the quotation confirms which documentation applies to each SKU and how it is obtained. Detection and fire-resistance performance is specified per SKU and confirmed with documentation per order — see the documentation section of our specs guide or ask on the inquiry form.
